Teltonika has launched two new routers in June 2026: the RUT286 and the RUT261. They sit at opposite ends of the same brief – one is a full-featured industrial router designed for complex global deployments, the other a compact, cost-efficient unit for everyday connectivity. Neither requires compromise on SIM flexibility, and both are built to work with roaming SIM cards, multi-network SIM cards, and global IoT SIM cards straight out of the box.

The RUT286 – Industrial Global LTE Cat 4 with eSIM and Serial Interfaces

The RUT286 is Teltonika’s new global industrial LTE Cat 4 router. It is built around a Telit modem with 3G/2G fallback and covers LTE bands across Europe, the Americas, Asia-Pacific, and Africa from a single hardware SKU – no regional variants to manage.

What the RS232/RS485 actually means
The serial interfaces on the RUT286 are not a checkbox feature. They give you native protocol support for the equipment languages that industrial sites actually speak: Modbus for energy meters and PLCs, DNP3 for SCADA and substations, DLMS for smart metering, OPC UA for IIoT integration. The RUT261 arrives with two certifications worth noting. RCM covers electromagnetic compatibility and safety requirements for Australia and New Zealand, meaning it can be deployed in those markets without additional compliance work. The RUT286 is a natural fit for substation and remote SCADA connectivity. Which SIM Card Works Best With Each Router?

Both routers support fixed IP SIM cards. The RUT286 is the more likely candidate for fixed IP SIM use given its SCADA and serial device applications, but the RUT261 works equally well for any fixed site requiring remote access.
Multi-network roaming SIM cards
A multi-network SIM does not lock to a single mobile operator. It scans available networks and connects to whichever provides the strongest signal at the installation point. A global roaming SIM covers deployments in multiple countries under a single contract. For the RUT286, which is specifically designed for global IoT deployments with its wide-band Telit modem, a global SIM is the natural companion. You get one SIM SKU, one contract, one bill, and connectivity in whichever country the hardware lands in. Combined with the RUT286’s eSIM, you have the option to supplement global roaming with a locally-provisioned profile for any site that runs long enough to justify it.
Global IoT SIM cards
Global IoT SIMs are designed for machine-to-machine use at scale – low data, high device count, long deployments, with management APIs for bulk provisioning and usage monitoring.
