How fixed public IP SIMs work

Unlike a dynamic IP SIM, which is assigned an address from a shared pool that can change between connections, a fixed public IP SIM keeps the same address every time. Combined with port forwarding or a VPN server configuration on the router, this allows direct inbound connections from the internet – useful where a monitoring platform, partner system, or VPN client elsewhere needs to reach your device on a predictable address.

A note on security

Because the address is public and static, it will be discoverable by internet scanning. This doesn’t mean it’s unsafe to use, but it does mean the security of the deployment rests on how the router itself is configured. At minimum we’d recommend: changing all default usernames and passwords, disabling any management services you don’t need on the WAN interface, restricting access by source IP where the router supports it, and keeping firmware up to date.
