All of our roaming SIM cards are multi-network as standard, connecting across UK mobile networks and automatically using whichever has the best signal. This page explains what that means in practice. To choose a plan, head to Dynamic IP Roaming SIM Cards (our headline plan from £2.20/month), Private IP Roaming SIM Cards for secure remote access, or Fixed Public IP SIM Cards for direct inbound access.
Why coverage varies by operator
Mobile coverage isn’t uniform. Each operator has its own network of masts, and signal strength at any given location depends on distance to the nearest mast, the frequency bands in use, and physical obstructions like buildings, hills or metal enclosures. A device that gets a strong signal on one network might get a weak or non-existent signal on another, just a few hundred metres away or even inside the same building.
For a device you’re deploying once and can test on site, this might not matter much – you can simply check which network works best and use a SIM for that operator. But for fleets of devices being rolled out across many sites, or for devices in locations you can’t easily test in advance, that variability becomes a real operational risk.
How multi-network roaming helps
A multi-network SIM removes the guesswork. The device automatically connects to whichever of any available UK mobile network has the strongest signal at its location, and can switch networks if conditions change – for example, if there’s an outage on one network, or if the device moves to a new location with different coverage. For mobile applications like vehicle trackers, this means consistent connectivity across a wider geographic area than any single network alone could provide.
Choosing your IP type
Multi-network roaming is included across all of our SIM products. The decision that matters most is the IP type, which depends on how your device needs to be accessed:
| SIM type | Best for | From |
|---|---|---|
| Dynamic IP | Outbound connectivity only – routers, sensors, trackers | £2.20/month |
| Private IP + VPN | Secure remote access – router management, CCTV, SCADA | £2.20/month |
| Fixed Public IP | Direct inbound access without VPN | £12.00/month |
