In short

SIM cards for Milesight UR and TR series routers follow the same selection logic as other industrial routers: dynamic IP for general connectivity, private IP with VPN for secure remote access, or fixed public IP for direct inbound connections. All of our SIM types roam across O2, Vodafone and EE as standard.

SIM connectivity for Milesight UR and TR series

Milesight’s industrial router range is used across many of the same applications as other 4G/5G industrial routers – remote site connectivity, IoT gateways, and as part of monitoring and control deployments. SIM card selection follows the same principles regardless of router brand:

VPN and remote access

Milesight routers support standard VPN protocols for remote access configurations. If your deployment needs secure remote access to the router’s management interface or to devices connected to it – cameras, sensors, controllers – a private IP SIM with VPN is the recommended approach, keeping the router off the public internet while still allowing authenticated remote access. See our private APN and VPN explained guide for background on how this works.

Multi-network roaming

All of our SIM products roam across O2, Vodafone and EE as standard, and this works with Milesight routers without any special configuration – the router simply connects via whichever network the SIM is currently using. This is particularly useful for sites where coverage from a single operator is uncertain.

If you’re specifying a Milesight router for a new deployment and aren’t sure which SIM type fits your application, get in touch with details of how the router will be used and we’ll recommend the right setup.
